MLB Odds Favor D-Backs – Reputation Favors Giants

August 31st, 2011

The surging Arizona Diamondbacks have an opportunity to put yet more space between themselves and the reigning World Series champion San Francisco Giants this weekend. The question is, can they actually follow through?

What was once looking like a tightly-fought NL West division race has blown right open thanks to the D-Backs’ late-August success. Now, with a three-game set on the horizon, the Giants can either start clawing back at the lead, or continue their downward spiral.

As far as the MLB betting world is concerned, the Giants are a superbly-staffed club with winning experience. Arizona, in contrast, is still very much an unproven commodity. That may be why the D-Backs sit with just 18/1 odds of winning the World Series compared to San Francisco’s 25/1 despite the gap in the standings.

With the wild card berth essentially locked down by the NL East’s Atlanta Braves, it’s all or nothing for the rivalry in the west. If Arizona can hold on to their playoff ticket, it will be their first trip to the postseason since 2007.

Led by Justin Upton and a contingent of well-rounded young hitters, not to mention revitalized ace Dan Haren, the Diamondbacks have seemingly come out of nowhere to emerge as a legitimate MLB betting option.

It may be hard to completely buy into the D-Backs’ as contenders philosophy, but those who do stand the chance of collecting a significant payout.

4/14 MLB Bets

April 14th, 2011

We are just two weeks into the season, but we have seen plenty of excitement on the season. This weekend is set to have some excellent series’s in both the National League and the American League. We are ready to give you a few of our favorite picks for the games on Thursday April 14th, 2011:

Minnesota @ Tampa Bay (-130)

Both teams have gotten off to a slow start. The Rays have heated up a bit, especially on the offensive side. Scott Shields will go against Carl Pavano in this one. Look for the Rays to be pleased to be back at home, and once a again put runs on the board. We are betting on the Tampa Bay Rays to beat the Minnesota Twins at home in this game.

Florida (+125) @ Atlanta

The National League East foes will get together in Dixie. Last night, Josh Johnson went after a no-hitter, but was cut  a bit short. The Marlins once again will have the better starting pitcher in this game. Ricky Nolasco will throw another gem, and keep Atlanta’s offense in some struggles. We are betting the Florida Marlins to beat the Atlanta Braves in this game.

San Diego/Houston under 8.5

Two teams at the bottom of their respective divisions will get together in Houston. The San Diego Padres are in a tie with Arizona in the basement of the NL West. Houston has struggled; including two of their last three to the Chicago Cubs. The Astros sit in last place in the NL Central. Dustin Moseley will look to pick up his first win for the Padres. He will go against youngster Bud Norris. We really like both teams to have a tough time scoring, despite the fact that both teams are going with young pitchers. These offensives aren’t very good. We are betting the under here!

St. Louis @ Los Angeles over 6.5

The St. Louis Cardinals will start a four game series in Los Angeles on Thursday night. Jaime Garcia and Hiroki Kuroda will get together. These two pitchers have gotten off to great starts, neither team has recorded a loss. The Cardinals offense has heated up, and their bullpen isn’t very good. That’s a good combination for several runs tonight.  6.5 isn’t very many! We like the over!

Good luck with all your Major League Baseball bets. We are excited to see our domination, and bring you more next week!

MLB: April 5th, 2011 action

April 5th, 2011

Let’s give this Major League Baseball stuff a try. We are very excited for the season, and expect to see some competitive divisions, and some great baseball. There is a full slate of games for Tuesday night. Here are our favorite bets for Tuesday April 5th, 2011:

San Diego +114 over San Francisco

The Giants have struggled to start the season. I really like Aaron Harang as the fourth starting pitcher. A lot less pressure. He will pitch well, and the Padres will stay fundamental. In a low scoring game, look for the Padres to come away with the win. San Diego can really nail it down with their late innings pitchers.

Los Angeles Angels/ Tampa Bay Rays over 7.5 -120

Don’t be scared of Weaver throwing for the Angels. He won’t pitch as well as opening day. Tampa Bay has to start scoring at some point; they have just three runs in three games. Someone will need to get that offense jumpstarted, or they will have no chance in the AL East. Happens tonight, a bunch of runs in a win.

New York/Philadelphia over 8 -105

Chris Young and Cole Hamels. Look for this game to go to the bullpen, and be a mess, like most Phillies/Mets bullpen games are. Philadelphia has yet to lose this season, while the Mets have won two in a row. Look for the offenses to get things going on a nice East coast night.

Houston Astros +145 over Cincinnati Reds

J.A. Happ is going to get off to a quick start. The Astros will find a way to get their first win. Cincinnati has out scored opponents 23-11 on the season and lead the National League Central. The Reds are looking for their second straight NL Central title. No late game heroics in this one for the cardiac Reds.

Atlanta Braves/Milwaukee Brewers over 8 -105

Another game, where two good pitchers get together, but once again I pick the over. I just like the offenses going against the bullpens late in this one. Derek Lowe had a great ending to last year and started this season strong too. Look for him to get roughed up early a bit. This has the makings of a 5-4 Milwaukee win. St. Louis -137 over Pittsburgh Albert Pujols is 2 for his first 17 at bats. The offense has to get going for St. Louis to have any chance. Under new management, the Pirates have played hard thus far. Not a great pitching match-up, and calm weather in St. Louis. Look for a bunch of runs. Cardinals roll in this one.

Good luck with all your Major League Baseball picks. We can’t wait to check in on our success later in the week, and provide some more free picks!

2011 MLB Opening Day Bets and Free Picks

April 1st, 2011

The 2011 MLB season is among us and it’s time to make some money betting on the sport we all love – baseball!  Gone are the days we talk about future bets and spring training betting odds, the real thing is here.  Let’s dive right in and take a look at a few games that really have some great value for 2011 Opening Day on Friday.

Toronto Bluejays vs. Minnesota Twins

The Minnesota Twins have won the AL Central division 2 years in a row and should have a good shot and winning it again this year.  They are led by offensive studs Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer.  They will send Carl Pavano to the mound on Friday.  The Bluejays are excited to have their first game be at home in front of the Toronto crowd.  Jose Bautista is coming off a career year and a huge multi-year contract signing in the offseason.  Can he still provide the spark on offense?  They will send Romero to the hill on Friday.

The Bluejays are -129 favorites for the game.  Many look at this and automatically like the Twins as underdogs.  Not so fast.  The Bluejays have the Twins number over the years and have a strong tendency to beat up on Minnesota.  We like the Toronto Bluejays -129 on Friday!

Our Pick: Toronto Bluejays -129

Seattle Mariners @ Oakland Athletics

Our second game to bet on for opening day is the Mariners at the Athletics.  Both of these teams have high expectations for the 2011 season.  The Mariners finished 2010 season with the worst record in the American League at 61-101.  The Athletics were 81-81 and 2nd in that division.  Both teams feel they have improved this year and will look to make a run at the Texas Rangers this year.

Both aces take the mound – Felix Hernandez for the Mariners and Trevor Cahill for the Athletics.  This over/under is set at just 6.5 runs.  While both of these pitchers are pretty lights out – the over is a juicy bet here.  Many trends point toward this game going over the 6.5 runs and reaching closer to 8-9 runs on opening day.  We like this to be a 5-3 or 5-4 ballgame.  Take our advice and bet on the Athletics/Mariners Over 6.5 Runs.

Our Pick: Athletics/Mariners Over 6.5

There you have it.  Two picks for Friday 2011 opening day.  We’ll be back on Saturday with a few more winners so check back early and often – right here – at MLBBettingBlog.com!

Major League Baseball Betting – Divisional Odds – AL

March 18th, 2011

Let’s talk about some American League Baseball. Last week we gave you some picks from the National League, according to their divisional chances. Now it’s time to talk about the American League.

American League Central:

This is the tightest of the three divisional races. The Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins all have a shot at winning this divisional. Cleveland and Kansas City appear to be big time long shots for the division. The Indians are 30 to 1, while Kansas City is 50 to 1. The three at the top are almost identical, as Chicago is 8 to 5, while Minnesota and Detroit are 9 to 5. If we had to pick a winner today, two weeks before the season starts: We would take the Minnesota Twins 8 to 5. We are picking the Twins because of their experience in the postseason.

American League West:

The top team in the American League West is the defending AL champion Texas Rangers. The Rangers are banking on another healthy season from Josh Hamilton. Texas is listed at 7 to 5 to win the American League West. Next is the Anaheim(Los Angeles) Angels. They are listed at 9 to 4 to win the AL West. This is our favorite bet out of this division. We all know how touch it is for teams to win back to back divisional titles. We think the Angeles will be the class of the division and win nearly 90 games. Seattle is 9 to 1, while Oakland is 12 to 5. If we were to pick; we would take the Angels.

American League East:

Finally, we are to the American League East, where the big powers New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox reside. Also in the AL East are the Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays. This division should be fun, as they tend to get really heated late in the year. New York and Boston are the class of baseball, but don’t count out Toronto; they can really hit the baseball. The odds for the AL East: Boston 4 to 6, New York 19 to 10, Tampa Bay 10 to 1, Toronto 22 to 1, Baltimore 22 to 1. With our money, we are taking the best team money can buy, no matter how much better the Red Sox and Rays got in the off-season. We are taking the Yankees in the AL East.

This major league baseball should be a ton of fun. There are several excellent baseball teams out of the American League, and we expect each division to be very tight. Check back for more as we approach opening day!

Major League Baseball Divisional Betting – NL

March 9th, 2011

Okay, we are so ready for the Major League Baseball season to get here. The season is just about three weeks away. We have given you our National League odds and our American League odds, but now let’s break down some divisional odds. These odds are based off the sportsbook at BetUS. This time we are going to give you our NL picks, next week, we will break down the AL.

Let’s look at the National League East: The Philadelphia Phillies are big time favorites in this division. In fact, with their pitching rotation, the Phillies appear to be a favorite to win the whole thing. Philadelphia is a huge favorite at -350. Our darkhorse here, and a team we would like to bet on, especially if the Phillies become banged up is the Atlanta Braves. The Braves are +400, which is a good value. After that, Florida is +1000, Mets are +1800 and Washington is +2500. Philadelphia, of course is the sexy choice, but Atlanta could be a solid bet!

Now for the National League Central: The Cardinals losing Adam Wainwright the first week of Spring Training really turned the tables on the odds for this division. The Cardinals were favorites along with Cincinnati and Milwaukee, but now they have fallen back. The Reds are the defending champions, and the favorite, at +200. Milwaukee comes in next at +250. Then comes St. Louis at +275 and Chicago at +500. The Astros are +2500 and Pittsburgh is +4000. Tony LaRussa knows what he is doing, we like the Cardinals and their +275 odds. If you are not excited about St. Louis, take Milwaukee, as the Reds will find out it’s tough to repeat.

Finally, out of the National League West, it’s a tight race between the defending champion San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies. The Giants are +125, while Colorado is +175. Next, the Dodgers are +300, Padres are +1000 and Arizona is +2000. Just like Cincinnati, we don’t think San Francisco will be able to repeat. For our money, we like the Colorado Rockies at +175.

Good luck with all your Major League Baseball betting; and as always, if you’re bored and looking for something else to do before the regular season starts you can always touch up on your poker game by checking out the OnlinePoker.org strategy section for great information and other important tips, as well as find out what’s going on with the upcoming WSOP 2011 that starts in several months.

Spring Training action: March 2nd, 2011

March 2nd, 2011

Why not? Let’s talk about some Spring Training action for March 2nd, 2011. The games will be played. Sure, alot of teams play alot of guys, but you need to take a look at who managers have played in the past during Spring Training action. With some of our knowledge and the pitching match-ups, we are going to give you a few of our best bets for Major League Baseball action on March 2nd.

Atlanta Braves vs. Boston Red Sox -135

The Braves are under new leadership, so look for them to start slow. Both teams have won two of their first three overall in the Grapefruit league, and two in a row. The Braves will play a bunch of their young studs, and will be a little wet under their feet. We like the Boston Red Sox -135 to win this game on Wednesday afternoon.

New York Mets vs. St. Louis Cardinals -130

The Cardinals picked up their first win of the Spring Training on Tuesday, but may have lost Chris Carpenter. The Cardinals now have not signed Albert Pujols, lost Adam Wainwright for the season, and now Chris Carpenter is hurt. Despite that, the Mets are a mess. They will be a mess in the Spring, the summer and the fall. Look for the Cardinals to win this game Wednesday afternoon.

Chicago Cubs +120 vs. Milwaukee Brewers

If this game was in July, this may be a different story. These two National League Central Division rivals will see each other a bunch during the regular season. The Cubs are coming off their first win of the season, after losing two in a row. The Brewers are 2-1, and only allowed 14 runs all season. Look for the Brewers lower level pitchers to get a bunch of action in this one, and the Cubs hitters will take advantage of it. Take the Cubs +120.

Good luck with all your Major League Baseball not only in Spring Training, but when the regular season kicks off at the beginning of the month. We cannot wait for the crack of the bat!

Breaking Down the National League in 2011

February 25th, 2011

Yes, I’m sure you are saying: “It’s about time”, as after last week, we promised our analysis of the National League. Well, finally, here it is!

Hope you enjoy as we give you some thoughts on the National League teams and their chances to win the entire 16-team NL.

With the great starting pitching rotation of Roy Halliday, Cliff Lee, Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels – the Philadelphia Phillies are run away favorite to win the National League. The Phillies have been there before, so expect them to know how to handle the late season pressures. Philadelphia comes into the season as 3 to 2 favorite at this point.

Second comes the San Francisco Giants. The Giants are the defending World Series Champions are the favorites in a weak and depleted NL West divison. The Giants have pretty much the same roster as last year, with a few guys gone, but they key guys back. Look for the Giants to get back to the postseason. They will have a tough time knocking off the Phillies in postseason play. The Giants are 6 to 1 to win the National League, and are a fan favorite when it comes to baseball betting online.

Next comes a mixture of teams. The Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals out of the National League Central, along with the Atlanta Braves out of the NL East are all 10 to 1. Surprising after the news of Adam Wainwright out for the season and the no extension of Albert Pujols that the Cardinals are tied for third as favorites. The Reds are the defending NL Central winner, but many expect their young pitching to not be able to hold up this season. The Braves are under new leadership for the first time in many many years after Bobby Cox retired. These three may not be awful bets at 10 to 1.

Colorado is next at 14 to 1. The Rockies are in the NL West with the Giants, and as we all know, defending champions seem to find ways to slip up the following season. At 14 to 1, the Rockies may be the best bet to make if you are looking to gamble, especially since tons of online sports betting sites are giving them better-than-average odds in 2011.

The last team we want to talk about is the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers come into the season at 20 to 1. With one of the better pitching staffs in the league, look for the Brewers to make noise all season long. The Brewers are 20 to 1 odds to win the National League this season, also a very nice bet for those looking to take some sweet money in October!

Good luck with all your MLB bets!

Breaking down the American League

February 19th, 2011

This week we are  going to break down the American League. Next week we will take our shot with the National League. The odds are released for teams to win the American League. We will take about a few of the top teams, their chances, and give you a dark horse pick.

As many of you would expect, the top two teams to win the American League are the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. And with the Red Sox offseason pick-ups, they are favored better than the Yankees. Boston is currently +150 to win the entire American League, while the Yankees are +250. Of course these are both good picks right now, because they are going to be dominate. The Yankees pitching didn’t get much, if any better, so we shy away from them a bit. The Red Sox this early are a pretty good pick!

Where are the defending American League champion Texas Rangers? Third. They are all the way up at +750. Josh Hamilton looks to be a man determined, and will carry the load again. Ron Washington finally has the respect he deserved as a manager. Look for the Rangers to win the AL West again, after that – it’s anyone’s ball game.

Coming in next are the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox out of the AL Central. Both these teams are going to have good seasons, but not enough to win the AL. Sure, +800 and +1000 look sexy, but just going to be pesky, but fall short in the postseason.

Our pick to click is the Detroit Tigers. We like the Tigers quite a bit. Sure, we just got done saying the Twins and White Sox will have a good season, but so will the Tigers. This will be a strong AL Central field this season. Detroit is a good bet at +1400, because they have the talent to win the AL. If they put things together, and stay healthy – look out – it could be just like 2006!

Good luck. We will break down the NL next week!

Current MLB Odds: To Win the World Series

February 10th, 2011

One of the fun aspects of betting is future bets. With the Major League Baseball season coming up, we are going to take about one of the favorite future bets around. Each team is given odds to win the World Series. The odds change as changes occur to each team, so it’s not a bad idea to look early and get in on a bet early. Let’s take a look at a few of the teams:

Using one of the top sportsbooks around, BetUS, the Philadelphia Phillies are the favorite to win the World Series. At +300, the Boston Red Sox are the only other team with as good of odds. The Phillies are certainly the National League’s favorite after adding Cliff Lee to the mix with Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels in the starting rotation. Boston certainly made a big difference in their lineup, and now are favorite slightly ahead of the Yankees.

Speaking of the Yankees, they come in at BetUS at +500, for the third best odds. Many experts are really tearing down the Yankees and their starting pitching staff. Rodriguez and Jeter can break out at anytime, so there is no counting out the Yankees. New York is second in the American League. Out of the National League, the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants come in with +1000 odds. What a great money maker it would be for those people feeling San Francisco can win back-to-back titles. Place $1 down, win $1000!

Texas (+1500), Colorado (+1600), St. Louis (+1800), Tampa Bay (+1800), Minnesota (+1800), Atlanta (+2000) and Cincinnati (+2000) round out the top 11.

At the bottom of the league, some of the same old stories will continue. The Pittsburgh Pirates, who hold the record for most losing seasons in a row, are at +15000. Cleveland is the worst in the American League, coming in at 10,000, along with Houston and Kansas City.

Be sure to take a look at some of the best MLB predictions for betting that you can take advantage of now! Be sure to get on the future bet on who will win the World Series in 2011 today!
