San Diego Padres @ St. Louis Cardinals -148

The Cardinals cannot lose two games in a row, at home to San Diego can they? After blowing a lead late in the game, the Cardinals news got worse, losing Matt Holliday. Clayton Richard, the big lefthander will get rough up by the Cardinals offense, despite them losing their clean-up hitter. Jake Westbrook is out to prove himself this season, and will start the season strong. Look for the Cardinals to bounce back on Saturday and beat the Padres.

We like the Giants to bounce back and win. Last season, that would be the M.O. of the team. Matt Cain, one of the sleepers of the 2011 season will take the mound against Ted Lilly. The Dodgers are going to be good this seaon, but not enough to win a second straight from the defending World Series Champions. We are betting on the Giants over the Dodgers, in Los Angeles.

Houston Astros @ Philadelphia Phillies under 7

The last game we like is an under. Wandy Rodriguez has showed he has filthy stuff. Now is the time to go up against the Phillies lineup. They are a little banged up. On the other side, Cliff Lee is a stud. Two left handers going at each other in this one. This game appears to have the makings of a 3-1 ball game. We like the under 7 in this game!

These bets are tough, because once you lock them in, they stay there the entire season. A win or loss here or there could make a difference in this season long bet. Let’s take a look at a few of the Major League Baseball teams and their regular season wins bet.

The Philadelphia Phillies out of the National League and the Boston Red Sox out of the American League have the most in the betting lines. Philadelphia is listed with 97.5 and Boston with 95.5. If any team can win 100 this season, it’s Philadelphia with their amazing starting pitching staff. The teams at the bottom are Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Seattle and Washington. THe Pirates are at 66.5, which would  give them just under 100 losses. Look for the Pirates to avoid 100 losses, but barely. The Royals at 68.5, we think they can win 70. Bet the over. Seattle is 70.5, while Washington is 72.5.

The Milwaukie Brewers made first baseman Prince Fielder the highest player in franchise history Tuesday when they agreed to a $15.5 million contract for the coming season. 

The agreement avoided Fielder’s final year of salary arbitration, but stunned many fans as it is a single-season record for a arbitration-eligible players. 

Many thought Fielder was on his way out of town because of his contract expectations. However, Fielder didn’t seem surprised by either development.

Fielder said, “Coming back with the Brewers was never going to be a surprise because I wasn’t a free agent.”

He seems to be ignoring that many expected a trade would be likely before he became a free agent. 

Many will point out that Fielder’s numbers declined last season. 

But General Manager Doug Melvin is defended the signing by saying, “It’s his career numbers as well as his ‘platform’ year,” Melvin explained. “Prince hit 50 home runs one season (2007) and 46 another (2009). He has a lot of RBI (536 in five-plus years). All of that comes into play. You can argue that he had declining performance last year but he’s also done some things that others haven’t.”

There is one thing that isn’t in doubt. When Fielder does become a free agent, he will be commanding a big contract from whatever team he decides to sign with.
